Termite Inspection and Treatment for Oak Ridge Homes
Termite Inspection
Your home’s soundness matters. If your Oak Ridge home is one of the original 1940s houses, its framing and crawl space have had more than 80 years of exposure and deserve a closer look. Termites can work inside that wood for years before you see any damage. Pest Ops was founded in 1995 by entomologist Kyle Lundy and is still family owned. Our termite control in Oak Ridge, TN, identifies the termite, finds the colony, and treats it with targeted methods and minimal pesticide use.

Signs of Termites in Your Oak Ridge Home
Trust Pest Ops with your home
In Oak Ridge, termites usually show themselves in spring, when swarmers leave the colony on warm days after rain. Have your home inspected if you see:
- Winged insects at a basement window or sliding door in March, April, or May
- Shed wings on windowsills, basement floors, or the garage floor
- Mud tubes running up your foundation, crawl space piers, or the posts under your deck
- Trim or deck boards that sound hollow or crumble when you press them
- Floors that sag or doors and windows that suddenly stick
Termite Control in Oak Ridge
CALL PEST OPS TODAY
Your home is likely the largest investment your family has made, and homeowners’ insurance usually excludes termite damage. Wings on a windowsill or a soft spot in the trim of your Oak Ridge home calls for a clear answer: are termites there now, how far have they spread, and what will it take to stop them?
Identifying the termite before treating it is how every Pest Ops inspection starts. The right method depends on the species and where it’s active. That way, we keep treatment targeted around your family and pets. We also limit what reaches the soil around your home. Your technician works out of our Knoxville office. You can also pair termite monitoring with residential pest control in Oak Ridge for year-round coverage. Termite control is one of our Oak Ridge pest control services. Here’s what to expect.
Our Process
Inspection
If you’ve spotted termites, we start by listening to what you’ve seen and getting to know your home. We inspect from the foundation and crawl space or walk-out basement to the deck, then walk you through what we found.
Treatment
Treatment is matched to the termite species and where it’s active in your home. Typically, we install the Trelona baiting system around your foundation so worker termites carry the bait back to the colony.
EXCLUSION
Termite protection isn’t a one-time fix. Your technician checks the stations, flags conditions like mulch against the siding or firewood stored under the deck, and keeps every visit environmentally friendly. We recommend a termite inspection each year.
Termite Identification
Trust Pest Ops with your home
There are three main types of termite: subterranean termites, dampwood termites, and drywood termites. The type of termite that you are likely to deal with in Tennessee is the subterranean termite. That being said, drywood and dampwood termites can be brought into the state in furniture and other items. Subterranean termites are the most common, and they cause billions of dollars in damage every year. Their colonies are quite large and can have thousands of members. Because they largely stay hidden, it is important to know the signs of a termite infestation so that you can stop and mitigate any damage as soon as possible.
Subterranean termite
These termites are white, dark brown or black. They are wood-destroying insects that live in colonies beneath the soil and feeds on cellulose materials like wood and paper.
Dampwood Termite
A dampwood termite is larger, light brown, and thrives in moist, decayed wood. It doesn’t require contact with soil, unlike subterranean termites. They’re less common in homes but can cause damage in areas with high humidity or persistent water issues.
Drywood Termite
These termite infest dry, sound wood, requiring little moisture to survive. They are typically light brown to tan, and often leave small, pellet-like droppings as a sign of their presence.
What Your Termite Inspection Looks For
Pest Ops will help protect your home
Termites need moist wood and a path to it from the soil. Here’s where your technician looks at an Oak Ridge home, and why:
- Landscaping beds. When you add mulch each spring, it builds up against your foundation over time. That traps moisture right at the siding and hides mud tubes.
- Decks and porches. Older homes in Oak Ridge’s East End often have original deck posts and stair stringers that sit in or near the soil.
- Basements and crawl spaces. Oak Ridge’s sloped lots mean walk-out basements often place framing and sill plates near grade on the downhill side. Crawl spaces that hold moisture give termites exactly what they need.
- Lots along the water. Homes on low ground near Melton Hill Lake tend to have wetter soil around the foundation. That extra moisture is exactly what termites look for.
- Firewood and stored lumber. Wood piled against the house or stored beneath the deck puts food in direct soil contact with termites, giving them an easy entry point.

Oak Ridge Termite Control FAQs
HOW CAN WE HELP?
How can I tell if the winged insects in my basement are termites?
Telling them apart comes down to a few physical differences. Termites have straight antennae, a thick waist, and wings of equal length. Flying ants have bent antennae and a pinched waist. Both swarm in spring, and both can show up at a basement window or sliding door. Save a few in a bag and your technician can identify them.
Does a neighbor's termite problem mean my Oak Ridge home is at risk?
Neighboring termite activity is a real reason to get your home checked. Termites travel through soil, so homes in the same Oak Ridge subdivision often face the same risks. Similar construction years, landscaping, and drainage mean similar problems. An inspection tells you whether termites are present and what conditions could invite them.
Does old termite damage in my Oak Ridge home mean there's still an active colony?
Old damage doesn’t by itself mean termites are still active. Finding past damage is common in older homes. A termite inspection separates old damage and risky conditions from evidence of an active colony. That distinction matters, especially if you’re buying or selling.
Does Pest Ops handle termite treatment for Oak Ridge commercial properties?
